SIM Swap Fraud: How to Protect Your Wallet
Your phone number is the key to many accounts. In a SIM swap, a fraudster convinces or bribes someone to move your number to a new SIM card they control. Suddenly they receive your calls and SMS, including verification codes.
Warning signs
- Your phone suddenly loses network for a long time in an area with good coverage.
- You receive a message about a SIM replacement you did not request.
- Friends say they got strange messages "from you".
- You receive alerts about sign-ins or changes you did not make.
How to protect yourself
- Use an authenticator app for 2FA rather than relying only on SMS codes. Authenticator codes live on your phone, not your SIM.
- Set a strong Wallet PIN. Even with your number, a fraudster cannot move EriPay money without it.
- Use a strong, unique password for your EriPay account and your email.
- Protect your email with its own 2FA, since password resets go there.
- Limit personal details on social media: date of birth, ID numbers and phone numbers help fraudsters impersonate you.
If you suspect a SIM swap
- Contact your mobile network immediately from another phone.
- Sign in to EriPay from another device and change your password and PIN.
- Contact EriPay support at info@eripays.com.
- Check your transaction history and report anything suspicious.
Layered security keeps you safe. Open your EriPay wallet and turn on 2FA today.
