Safe From Scams: 10 Habits That Protect Your Mobile Wallet
Digital money is far safer than cash, but only if we protect it. Fraudsters know that most people trust their phones, so they use fake calls, SMS messages and social media to trick people into giving away their PIN or sending money. The good news is that nearly every scam can be stopped by a few simple habits.
Share these ten habits with your family, your staff and your community.
1. Never share your PIN, password or one-time code
Your Wallet PIN and the one-time codes (OTPs) we send you are the keys to your money. EriPay staff will never ask for them, not by phone, not by SMS, not on WhatsApp and not in person. Anyone who asks is a fraudster. Hang up.
2. Beware of "wrong number" refunds
A common trick: you receive an SMS that looks like a deposit, followed by a call from someone crying that they sent money to you by mistake. Before you send anything back, open your EriPay app and check your real balance and transaction history. Fake SMS messages cannot change your wallet. If a genuine mistaken payment reached you, contact EriPay support and we will handle it.
3. Check the name before you confirm
When you send money, EriPay shows the recipient's name. Take two seconds to check it. A wrong digit in a phone number can send money to a stranger, and transfers between wallets are instant.
4. Use only official channels
Use the official website eripays.com and the official EriPay app. Do not sign in through links in SMS messages or social media posts. When in doubt, type the address yourself.
5. Turn on two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication means that even if someone steals your password, they still cannot sign in without the code on your phone. You can switch it on in your account settings in less than a minute.
6. Read your security alerts
EriPay tells you when your account signs in from a new or unusual device. If you see an alert you do not recognise, change your password and Wallet PIN immediately and contact support.
7. Protect your SIM card
Fraudsters sometimes try to take over a victim's phone number through a fake SIM replacement. If your phone suddenly loses network for no reason, contact your mobile network straight away. Use a SIM PIN, and never give your ID details to strangers.
8. Be suspicious of "guaranteed profit"
Schemes that promise to double your money, or pay huge returns for recruiting friends, are almost always Ponzi or pyramid schemes. Real financial products explain their risks clearly. If an offer sounds too good to be true, it is.
9. At an agent, match the reference
When you cash out at an EriPay agent, confirm the transaction reference in your app before cash changes hands. Share a one-time code only when you are physically at the agent's counter and want to complete the cash-out.
10. Report quickly
Speed matters. If you think you have been scammed, or your phone has been lost or stolen, contact EriPay immediately at info@eripays.com so we can protect your account. Report the crime to the police as well.
Security is a community effort
Scammers succeed when people stay silent. Talk about these tricks at home, at church or mosque, in your savings group and at the market. Every person who learns to say "no" to a fraudster makes the whole cashless economy safer.
