One Wallet, Many Currencies: How EriPay Connects Uganda to Africa and the World
Money is global, but for many Africans it still feels local. Receiving a payment from a client in another country, paying for an online service, or supporting family across the border has too often meant high fees, long delays and paperwork. A multi-currency wallet changes that.
Who needs a multi-currency wallet?
- Freelancers and remote workers who are paid in US dollars, euros or pounds by international clients.
- Students paying for online courses, exam fees or study materials abroad.
- Traders and small exporters buying stock or selling to customers in Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, the DRC and further afield.
- Families sending and receiving support between Uganda and relatives working abroad.
- Online shoppers who want to pay for apps, software and subscriptions worldwide.
How it works with EriPay
Hold
Your EriPay account can hold several wallets at once, one for each supported currency, including Ugandan shillings, US dollars and other fiat currencies, as well as supported digital assets. Each balance is shown separately, so you always know exactly what you have.
Exchange
Convert between currencies inside the app at the rate shown before you confirm. You decide when to exchange, for example converting dollars to shillings only when you need to spend them.
Send and receive
Send money to any EriPay user by phone number or email, in the currency of your choice. Merchants and freelancers can share payment links that customers anywhere can pay.
Spend
An EriPay virtual card lets you pay online at merchants around the world, funded directly from your wallet. You can top it up, freeze it or withdraw from it at any time.
Africa's opportunity
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is creating one of the largest single markets in the world. For small businesses to benefit, payments between African countries must become as easy as payments within them. Digital wallets that hold many currencies and settle instantly are a key part of that future, and EriPay is building for it from Lira outward.
Tips for managing several currencies
- Keep spending money in your spending currency. Hold shillings for local expenses so you are not converting every day.
- Understand the rate. Exchange rates move constantly and include a margin. Check the rate shown before you confirm.
- Watch the risk. Holding a foreign currency or a digital asset means its value in shillings can rise or fall. Crypto assets in particular are volatile.
- Keep records. Your EriPay statements show every exchange and transfer, which helps with budgeting and taxes.
Your passport to the global economy
Talent and hard work are everywhere in Uganda. With the right tools, a designer in Lira, a coffee farmer in Bugisu or a tailor in Gulu can serve customers anywhere in the world. Open your EriPay wallet and start receiving, holding and spending money without borders.
