Managing Float as an EriPay Agent: Tips and Agent-to-Agent Float Sharing

Float is an agent's working capital: the cash in your drawer and the digital balance in your agent wallet. Too little of either and you turn customers away. Managing it well is the key to a profitable agent business.

Understand the two sides

  • Cash-in uses your digital balance and gives you cash.
  • Cash-out uses your cash and gives you digital balance.

As the day goes on, your float shifts from one side to the other. Rebalancing means turning cash back into digital balance (or the reverse) so you can keep serving both kinds of customers.

Plan for busy days

  • Month end and paydays: more cash-outs, so keep more cash.
  • Market days: traders cash in their takings, so keep more digital balance.
  • School term start: high demand for both.

Rebalance quickly

Top up your digital balance with mobile money or bank transfer, or withdraw digital balance to mobile money or bank when you need more cash.

Agent-to-agent float sharing

When you run low, another EriPay agent can lend you float from their agent wallet, and you repay it later with no interest. It is a simple way for agents in the same area to support each other and keep customers served.

  • Agree the amount and repayment date clearly.
  • Repay on time so other agents keep trusting you.
  • Everything is recorded in both wallets.

Keep cash safe

  • Do not keep more cash than you need at the counter.
  • Rebalance during the day rather than carrying large amounts at night.
