How to Pay Yaka, NWSC, URA, DStv, GOtv, StarTimes and School Fees With EriPay

Queuing at a pay point to clear a bill can waste a whole morning, and carrying cash to pay it adds risk. With EriPay you can pay the most common Ugandan bills straight from your wallet, from wherever you are, and keep a record of every payment. This guide explains which bills you can pay, exactly what to enter for each, what happens after you pay, and how to avoid the most common mistakes.

Bills you can pay

  • Yaka (UMEME prepaid electricity)
  • NWSC (National Water and Sewerage Corporation)
  • URA taxes and fees, using your PRN
  • DStv, GOtv and StarTimes subscriptions
  • School fees through SchoolPay

How to pay, step by step

  1. Open Pay Bills from the dashboard menu.
  2. Choose the biller.
  3. Enter your account number (see the table below for what each biller needs).
  4. Enter the amount. The screen shows the fee and the total.
  5. Confirm with your 6-digit Wallet PIN.

The amount is taken from your wallet straight away and the payment shows as pending while it's being settled with the biller. You receive a notification when it's paid, along with the token or receipt, and the payment appears in your transaction history.

What to enter for each bill

Yaka (UMEME)

Enter your meter number, printed on the meter and on previous token receipts. When the payment is settled, your token is sent to you. Type it into your meter's keypad as usual.

NWSC

Enter your NWSC account number, shown on your water bill.

URA

First generate a Payment Registration Number (PRN) on the URA portal for the tax or fee you are paying. Enter that PRN and the exact amount on the PRN. Keep the PRN slip together with your EriPay receipt.

DStv, GOtv and StarTimes

Enter the smartcard or IUC number shown on your decoder or in your account, and the amount for your package.

School fees (SchoolPay)

Enter the student's SchoolPay payment code, given by the school, and the amount.

What it costs

A small fixed fee is shown on the payment screen before you confirm, so you always know the total. There is no extra charge after the payment.

Double-check the account number

A wrong meter number, PRN or payment code sends your payment to someone else's account, and getting it back depends on the biller. Copy numbers carefully from your bill, meter or slip. Read them back digit by digit before confirming.

If something goes wrong

  • Payment is still pending: bills are usually settled quickly, but some take longer depending on the biller. You'll be notified as soon as it's done.
  • Payment could not be completed: the full amount, including the fee, is returned to your wallet.
  • Token not working: check you entered it on the right meter, then open a support ticket with the transaction ID.

Tips that save time and money

  • Save for big bills. Create a Savings Goal for school fees or the annual TV package so the money is ready when it's due.
  • Pay TV a day early. Paying before the subscription expires avoids interruptions.
  • Buy Yaka before you run out. Paying at night when the meter is empty is stressful; top up when you are at around a quarter.
  • Use your history as records. Every bill appears with the date, account and amount, which is useful for landlords, accountants and tax.
  • Pay for family. You can pay a parent's Yaka or a sibling's fees from your own wallet; just enter their account number.
